The Fort Worth Police Department has a state-of-the art public safety training facility which includes a concrete driving track, 12 separate classrooms, an indoor firearms training facility that includes an on-site armory, a full-time 25-yard practice range, a thirty-lane 25-yard range, a fifty-lane 50-yard range, and a 100-yard range. The ranges are equipped with turning targets, and are equipped for low-light training. The facility also has a tactical village for force-on-force scenarios.
Lateral officers must have 3 years of experience handling all types of police calls at a local, county, or state law enforcement agency with at least 30 sworn officers. Officers from agencies with less than 30 sworn officers will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The Fort Worth Police Department holds a Civil Service test in January to fill an academy class starting in June. College students graduating in May should plan on taking the January Civil Service test. The Department holds a Civil Service test in June to fill an academy class starting in November.
