Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit
The Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit (SORT) is assigned within the Special Victims Section (SVS) of the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) . The Unit provides registration services to sex and terrorist offenders moving to and already living in, the City of Fort Worth. SORT monitors only the sex offenders' activity to verify compliance with the Sex Offender Registration Program and the conditions of their parole or probation.

Sex Offender Residency Ordinance
On February 24, 2026, the Fort Worth City Council passed ordinance 26-5721(PDF, 169KB) which regulates where certain sex offenders may reside in order to reduce contact between registered sex offenders and children, and to help protect the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens. Child safety zones - 2,000 ft buffers within which sex offenders who have committed an offense against a minor are prohibited from residing - were established around the below-listed areas where children commonly gather:
- School
- Day-care or child-care facility
- Park
- Playground
- Public swimming pool
- Youth center
- Community center
- Public library
