Internship Program

The Fort Worth Police Department's Internship Program allows current college students to learn about, gain practical experience, and explore career pathways in the field of policing. More information about the program can be found below.  Internships are unpaid.

About the Internship

1. Bridge classroom learning and real-world policing
Interns observe and apply criminal justice concepts in practical settings such as patrol operations, investigations, community policing, and administrative functions.

2. Provide career exploration and informed decision-making
Internships allow participants to see the realities of law enforcement—both challenges and rewards—so they can determine if the profession aligns with their values and goals.

3. Develop professional skills and discipline
Interns build communication skills, teamwork, accountability, time management, and professionalism while working in a structured, environment.

4. Promote ethical standards and integrity
Exposure to policy, procedure, and supervision reinforces the importance of ethics, lawful conduct, and public trust.

5. Strengthen community engagement understanding
Interns learn how law enforcement works with the community, schools, businesses, and partner agencies to promote public safety.

6. Prepare candidates for future hiring and training
Internships serve as a pipeline by familiarizing interns with departmental expectations, physical standards, report writing, and academy culture.

7. Support the agency’s mission
Interns assist with non-enforcement tasks, special projects, and events, increasing operational efficiency while gaining experience.
